Why I think this is important
Museo is a new search engine that lets you search the New York Public Library digital collection, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Rijksmusuem, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art for images that are free to use (no copyright infringement). Other institutions will be added. I did a search of “purple” and found a flowerpot from the Ming Dynasty at the Art Institute of Chicago and a War Department stamp issued in the 1870s.
