Why I think this is important

Read the story of the first battalion in US military history made up entirely of Black soldiers. It was the 1st Rhode Island regiment who fought in the American Revolution. Despite the success of the Slave Enlistment Act (1778) to enlist more Black men into the American military, it was repealed a year and a half later.
