Why I think this is important

I teach US History and do my best to describe to students the details of the people, stories and events that I am explaining. The only thing I cant explain to them is how the past smelled – until now…
A group named Odeuropa is hoping to answer that. They are attempting to catalog the smells of Europe from the 16th century to the early 20th century by using images and texts to search for odor descriptions. They will take those words and put them in a database in which chemists and perfumers will create the scents.
